History of the Tuntable Falls Community

Tuntable Valley Map

Following the transformative Aquarius Festival in May 1973, forty forward-thinking individuals each contributed a $200 share to acquire 200 acres of diary pastureland and pristine rainforest in a steep mountain valley at Tuntable Falls.

Their collective vision gave birth to Co-ordination Co-operative—an innovative model of affordable housing, shared land ownership, and sustainable community development. These early pioneers pooled their resources, and laid a strong foundation for a modern approach to community living.

Subsequent acquisitions in 1978 and 1983 expanded the Co-operative’s collective holdings to 728 hectares, reflecting steady growth and strategic development.

Today, Tuntable Falls stands as a testament to prudent planning and community commitment, serving as a successful model for sustainable rural development in NSW’s Northern Rivers region.

The legacy of those early investments continues to inspire community-focused initiatives and attract valuable support from government, non-profit, and investment partners.
