Annual Spring Workday

Hi everyone!

Please come on down on Saturday morning, for our annual Spring Workday.

We have the annual spring BFMP (Bush Fire Management Plan) workday coming up on Saturday 26 September.  (This is our big twice yearly community clean up, in line with our risk management obligations from our Bush Fire Management Plan)

Work day will be at the Centre and various other locations on our land, 9 am start

North End (see Salty),

Pixies (see Satya),

South End?

also hamlets can choose to work on their common roads, clearing to make way for emergency vehicles, etc. Please record hours worked, and before and after photos would be appreciated, submit to coop email.  Come to lunch and submit hours at the centre, if you like.

Lunch will be served afterwards, at the community centre (thanks to Jillian DeLaile and helpers!).

The following is a list of jobs, focused around the centre (hall and community centre).

  • BFMP jobs around Centre
  • 1. Clear leaves and debris from top of SWS tank in carpark
  • 2. Clear Centre APZ (Asset Protection Zone) – from SWS tank in carpark to water tanks above the Hall – push back weeds new growth to lip of gully
  • 3. Continue clearing along verge above the road and past the toilets to the corner above the Hall. This requires a team and some chainsaw use on the many saplings. A Ute or trailer would make removing the vegetation less physically demanding.
  • 4. Donga – make a clear zone all the way around the Donga so it can be assessed for future action
  • 5. Fire shed – clear to gully at rear and remove/ restack any usable timbers. Assess for future action – improve storage space and general security.
  • 6. Remove all items from under the Hall.
  • 7. Dismantle stacks on rear verandah of Hall and assess for future use. Remove flammables like timber
  • 8. Rebuild steps near the Community Centre? (I think Rain is on to this?)
  • 9. Catering and cleanup crew
  • 10. First Aid support
  • 11. Clear gutters – requires working at heights ticket
  • 12. CB check & contact with Forest Camp? Other work groups? Check radio contacts from centre to other places.
  • 13. Community Evacuation Plan needs review and updating – administrative task looking for an interested member who wants some VolCon hours doing something less physical (speak to Karen Henry?)

Outside the centre jobs:

  • Pixies Road – road side clearance (coordinator Satya)
  • Northend road from crossing gate plus entrance
    Cleaning of North End entrance, bus stop.
  • Resonance fire trail to Walagala (coordinator: Simon)
  • Heaven Road (coordinator: Chris Spain – to be confirmed)
  • Davies Rd (coordinator: Narada)

Also, hamlet members may receive volcons for work on their hamlet roads, making them accessible for fire trucks, and other emergency vehicles (clearing overhanging branches, etc). Please take before and after photos, for proof of work, and submit with work levy hours to office.
